Nu Chi Zeta Chapter History

History was made at #9 Estate Grove Place, Frederiksted, St. Croix, when Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated chartered the Nu Chi Zeta Chapter. Thirteen illustrious Zeta Ladies felt there was a need to expand this organization to the Virgin Islands territory and offer much needed services to their community. The charter members of this chapter are Debra Abel, Gertrude Arnold, Colleen Francis-Carter, Annie Day Henry, Olivia Henry, Dr. Yvonne Williams-Henry, Dorothy Hicks (triumphant), Attorney Linda Hopkins, Helen Joseph, Carolyn FranklinMcKenzie, Eloise O’Neal (triumphant, Michelle Severin (triumphant), and Ophelia Jackson. This momentous accomplishment occurred on December 12, 1987 with the then International Grand Basileus, Eunice Thomas, officiating the ceremony. Soror Michelle Severin was elected the first President of this Chapter. With a backdrop of sandy beaches with crystal blue waters, the members have demonstrated an interest in serving their community by anticipating their needs by initiating various outreach efforts.  The chapter has collaborated with several reputable local organizations helping citizens to make healthy lifestyle choices through motivating women, through mentoring young girls as they transition to womanhood, and by promoting awareness of various causes that may plague the well-being of our community. Nu Chi Zeta Chapter has a history of supporting community members throughout all spectrum of life to include the tiny ones that are born too soon, the homeless population, and the wise and seasoned members of our community. Most recently, the Nu Chi Zeta Chapter has adopted the Ricardo Richards Elementary School where various ZHOPE programs and activities take place. The chapter has received numerous awards and recognitions for the efforts in the community, and is proud of the many members that were nominated and joined the ranks of other remarkable women in the Zeta Phi Beta Southeastern Regional Hall of Fame for their unending commitment to the organization and the community. As the chapter continues to grow, the intentions are to keep at the forefront of their goals the efforts of inspiring and assisting the community.
